Inequities of Urban Parks

An infographic representing a compelling statistic that highlights the equity gap in urban parks across America.

Overview

The pandemic has proven the value and impact of parks on people living in urban environments. Unfortunately, there is a huge equity gap in urban parks across America.

In 2021, The Trust for Public Land measured features of public parks including access, investment, amenities, and acreage to uncover this disparity. Among other findings, their report revealed that “parks serving a majority people of color are, on average, half as large - 45 acres compared to 87 acres - and serve nearly five times more people as parks that serve a majority-white population.”
