The Problem
Eleanor’s Legacy looked to redesign their website so it could be used as a strategic communication tool for their organization. The board was looking for guidance through the redesign process and recommendations for the design and structure of the new website.
The Solution
I conducted a full audit of the existing website and facilitated a workshop with board members to inform strategic recommendations for the website redesign. The workshop served as a jumping off point for larger discussions around the organizations initiatives. We discussed how the website could serve as a communication tool to establish the membership program and the junior council network. In the end, I delivered a discovery output report which included recommendations for the sitemap, design, and experience of the new website.
Summary of the process
The Audit
First, I completed an audit of the existing website and outlined the current state sitemap. I used this information to highlight opportunities for improvement and define guiding experience principles.
The Workshop
I presented the audit to the clients and facilitated a discovery workshop. The exercises in the workshop were designed to focus on the website goals and define a new site structure. First, we prioritized the audience and identified what they need from the website. Then, we discussed what the website needs to do for the organization. With these goals in mind, I led the clients through a card sorting exercise to determine the new information architecture. We ended the session ideating ways the organization could stand out through unique functionality or information design.
The Output Report
I summarized my recommendations into an output report for Eleanor’s Legacy to use as a guide as they update the website. The report included a summary of the audience needs, experience principles, sitemap, content outline, lo-fi wireframes, style guide, and more.
